animacy in Rioplatense Spanish

Rioplatense Spanish consults an animacy ranking when it marks a direct object, placing the marker a before a human or otherwise individuated animate object and omitting it elsewhere.

Rioplatense Spanish grammaticalises animacy through differential object marking: a direct object naming a human being, or an animal treated as an individual, is preceded by the marker a, and an inanimate object takes no marker at all. The contrast between busco a mi amigo and busco un plomero shows that the marker depends on specificity as well, so animacy is one of two conditions rather than the whole trigger, and llamé un taxi shows the inanimate case failing on animacy alone. Nothing in the language inflects a noun for a point on the animacy scale and no agreement pattern varies with it, so the ranking is visible only in what it triggers, which is the shape the dimension describes. Animacy also constrains the choice between the object pronouns lo and le for many speakers, and it separates the paired question and indefinite words quién from qué and alguien from algo, which distinguish a person from a thing as a matter of the word chosen. The marking is recorded as conditioned because it appears only on an object meeting both conditions and nowhere else in the clause.

What this language does about this category

realization.state

One of five states, or the eleventh cell: nobody has recorded a state, which is not a claim that the language lacks the distinction.

Every via edge: this realizer, this way. An explicit or periphrastic state is a summary of this list, recomputed on every build and never authored.

Everything joined to this object

One group per typed edge, in both directions. A1b guarantees no object node is an orphan, so this is the whole navigation: an object with no edges would have failed the build rather than reached this page.

What this object is a kind of

Walking this object's own `is-a` edges: what it is a kind of. Several branches from one object are several classification axes, not competing supertypes.

Fan-out per dimension

A4

One row per dimension, largest first. That is a display order, not a verdict: 03-schema.md declares no threshold above which fan-out is too much, so this reports the count and grades nothing.

What kinds of this object there are

Walking the `is-a` edges that point at this object: what kinds of it there are. An object reachable two ways is drawn in both places and is still one object.
